Description
The Abyss is a deep chasm. Its layers descend down steep declines, making a return journey extremely difficult. Demons placed at strategic locations make independent passage either up or down almost impossible. Escourted downward passage by demon may be a likely, however.

Each layer of the Abyss has its own hazzards, making the plane too complex to describe in several lifetimes.

Common Inhabitants
The following creatures are common in this plane: chaotic evil souls, a myriad of demons, and lesser and greater gods. It is thought there are black, red, and white dragons here.

Apep (god)
Eater of Souls
He appears as a giant snake.
    He routinely journeys to Aaru to eats souls and oppose the efforts of Osiris.

Cainus (demon)
Lord of Chaos
He appears as an aged, yet muscular male who has large black wings. He stands 7 feet tall and carries a spiked mace.
    He is an entity fixated on the propagation of chaos.

Demogorgon (demon)
Lord of Darkness and Deceit
He is thought to possess a reptilian body, but it is able to manifest itself into snakes, slime, and darkness itself.
    It commands deep layers of the Abyss. It is a master manipulator and focuses on beguiles, charms, commands, and fear. It also possesses the ability to form illusions.

Orcus (demon)
Lord of the Undead
His head and legs are goat-like, midsection of a fat man, and large leathery wings. He stands over 12 feet tall and his flesh lined with rot and sores.
    Orcus is a disgusting being who delights in torturing souls who are in the Underworld. He commands several layers of the Abyss. His layers are high up in the Abyss, as he enjoys making occassional personal visits to Hell to collect souls.

Erebos (god)
God of Darkness
He is the personification of darkness. He exists as a shade, even in the Abyss.
    He is a primordial god who, therefore, is very powerful. He courts Nychta (see Hades).

Pazazu (demon)
Caretaker of Demons, Lord of Winds
Pazazu has a frightening face. He has the body of a man, the head of a lion, taloned feet, wings, a scorpion's tail, and a serpentine penis. He stands 10 feet tall.
    He enjoys possessing youth and tormenting families and communities.

Ur-Tror (demon)
Lord of Confinement and Constriction
The demon has the body of a giant bear, but the heads of several thick constrictor snakes protrude from its neck where its head should be.
    Twin to Ur-Ra-al.

Ur-Ra'al (demon)
Lord of Snakes
This demon has the body of a giant tiger, but the heads of several thick cobras protrude from its neck where its head should be.
    Twin to Ur-Tror.
