Grimfire, Superhero or Supercriminal:
What do you think of when you think of Chicago? "Corruption" is one of many correct answers. If you disagree, then your selective memory has blocked out: Police Cmdr. Jon Burge's prisoner abuse, Operation Silver Shovel that dug up people connected with City Hall who took money for an illegal garbage dumping scheme, CPD's SOS thefts and robberies, Governor George Ryan's licenses, and, more recently, Governor Rod Blagojevich's pay to play.
The
Chicago Sun-Times reports that in the last three decades, at least 79 local elected officials have been convicted of a crime, including three governors, one mayor, and a whopping 27 aldermen from the Windy City. So what should make Chicago's superheroes so different?
It turns out
Grimfire, the leader of
The Chicago Freedom Crew, is seemingly falling right in line with his fellow Chicago politicians. Grimfire is under investigation concerning the murder of Stacey Richardson. The gist of the case is that Richardson was killed on the night of February 14th last year and boot prints matching Grimfire's were placed at the scene as well as shell casings matching Grimfire's usual caliber of choice.
It certainly isn't a open-and-close case, but it sullies the Chicago superteam and further stains Chicago.
Grimfire is keeping a low profile concerning this case. He refused to comment on the ongoing investigation.
When local residents were asked about Grimfire, there was overwhelming support for the hero. "Gangbangers and drug dealers are running scared," said an anonymous source. Local police officers have no offcial comment, but they seem to have positive reflections when asked to speak about Grimfire.
Grimfire's incidents related to crime fighting appear to be heavy on the use of force. He has shot several perpetrators, which have led to 3 deaths. However, the shootings have all been found to be justifiable. The only real problem faced by this hero was an issue related to tax evasion, which has been dealt with.
Since the murder case is ongoing, there is no official ruling. He is only being tried in the court of public opinion.
