JENN STERGER'S NEWS BRIEFS

Hero Magazine

Lady Pink is in the news again. She helped a number of people who were involved in a car pileup - bringing order to the site and evacuating injured people to a local hospital.

This issue of Hero magazine says it interviewed a citizen of St. Odious later that day. This person claims seeing Lady Pink breaking in to a clothes shop known to sell frumpy women's wear. Allegedly, Lady Pink removed all the underwear from the store, seemingly in protest to the poor taste of the clothing.

Grimfire, Superhero or Supercriminal:
What do you think of when you think of Chicago? "Corruption" is one of many correct answers. If you disagree, then your selective memory has blocked out: Police Cmdr. Jon Burge's prisoner abuse, Operation Silver Shovel that dug up people connected with City Hall who took money for an illegal garbage dumping scheme, CPD's SOS thefts and robberies, Governor George Ryan's licenses, and, more recently, Governor Rod Blagojevich's pay to play.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that in the last three decades, at least 79 local elected officials have been convicted of a crime, including three governors, one mayor, and a whopping 27 aldermen from the Windy City. So what should make Chicago's superheroes so different?
It turns out Grimfire, the leader of The Chicago Freedom Crew, is seemingly falling right in line with his fellow Chicago politicians. Grimfire is under investigation concerning the murder of Stacey Richardson. The gist of the case is that Richardson was killed on the night of February 14th last year and boot prints matching Grimfire's were placed at the scene as well as shell casings matching Grimfire's usual caliber of choice.
It certainly isn't a open-and-close case, but it sullies the Chicago superteam and further stains Chicago.
Grimfire is keeping a low profile concerning this case. He refused to comment on the ongoing investigation.
When local residents were asked about Grimfire, there was overwhelming support for the hero. "Gangbangers and drug dealers are running scared," said an anonymous source. Local police officers have no offcial comment, but they seem to have positive reflections when asked to speak about Grimfire.
Grimfire's incidents related to crime fighting appear to be heavy on the use of force. He has shot several perpetrators, which have led to 3 deaths. However, the shootings have all been found to be justifiable. The only real problem faced by this hero was an issue related to tax evasion, which has been dealt with.
Since the murder case is ongoing, there is no official ruling. He is only being tried in the court of public opinion.

Crime Watch

Criminal Organizations:
Recent FBI and CIA statistics are showing an alarming number of incidents related to organizaed crime. Criminal organizations include low level street gangs, organized crime families, and super villain groups. A local organizations that is gaining momentum, named Taunt, is gaining the attention of law enforcement.
Luckily, organized crime is no match for Aegis. Our national, state, and local agencies are a big help, too.
Officials tell us to report any suspicious activities. The reporting of activities helps make our world safer for all of us.

Technology:
Evildoers, unfortunately, have access to a powerful assembly of weapons these days. The black market is easily able to generate a score of high tech rifles, handguns, and gadgets.
There are scopes that have digital, self-focusing features, rifles that have a variable means of projecting energy or specialized affects, armor that repels bullets, magnetism, changes in temperature, and more.

The Occult:
All of us have seen graffiti painted on trains and highway underpasses, but several sightings of strange symbols and geometrical shapes have been reported to be occult symbols. Harvard University Professor of Religious Iconology and Symbology, Robert Langdon, has stated a growing rise in occult-type phenomena in the recent year. The symbolic representations coupled with the calendar and mythological events is without a doubt striking.
Yet, Dr. Kohn, reknown arcanist, contradicted Langdon's claims when he stated that a few crazed lunatics and their horrific endeavors certainly do not equate to an occult problem. Kohn tells us not to worry and that "he has it covered."
