Vulcanus exists in the southernmost region of the Sea of Fate, situated west of Joria and east of the Gnoll Caves. It is a volcanic archipelago characterized by a central, dominant volcano and a cluster of smaller, subsidiary volcanic vents.

The volcanos of Vulcanus has two patterns. It has major explosive eruptions occur approximately once per decade, characterized by powerful blasts. There are minor effusive eruptions, characterized by slow-moving lava flows, transpire several times annually.

Records indicate the presence of dwarven mining operations in the distant past. Mining operations were presumably discontinued due to harassment from hostile forces, including gnoll pirates and hobgoblins.

Vulcanus isn't an island, it's a defiant thundering furnace of molten rock thrust from the sea's wrath. A volcanic archipelago, it reigns supreme over its cluster of satellite islands, a brooding monarch amidst fiery courtiers. Here, the earth itself bellows in defiance.

The heart of this igneous dominion is the colossal central volcano. No mere tallest mountain, it's a titan, a monstrous pyre that paints the sky with plumes of ash and superheated breath. Its eruptions are no mere shows, but cataclysmic pronouncements, visible across leagues of furious sea.

Beneath this colossus lies a deceptive beauty. Lush vegetation clings precariously to the flanks of the volcano. Yet make no mistake, this is no tropical paradise. This is a land where fire and life co-exist in a volatile embrace between beauty and destruction. Vulcanus isn't a haven, it's a crucible -- a forge where the very essence of the world is tempered in the fires of creation and annihilation.

Vulcanus is considered a potentially valuable resource deposit, though the ongoing volcanic activity presents significant logistical challenges. The viability of re-establishing mining operations requires a thorough investigation of the region and the need to dominate a military presence along the southern and eastern side of the Sea of Fate. Yet, mountain dwarves (see Tolan) are eager to survey the area and record the volcanic activity and identify potential mineral deposits. Historical dwarven mining sites should be investigated to assess the feasibility of resuming mining operations despite the necessary security measures that must be implemented to mitigate threats posed by hostile forces in the region.

Rumors

  • Tales of giants living on Vulcanus have come to light. Twice the height of a human, these towering smokey-looking creatures roam the largest of islands. Is this a story that pirates weave to prevent the king from trying to militarily dominate the southern and eastern sides of the Sea of Fate? Is this a story concocted by miners who don't want the island's spoils taken over by dwarves?
